We are currently recruiting for a Human Resources Assistant to join our Cook & Boardman corporate office in Winston Salem, North Carolina

Established in 1955, The Cook & Boardman Group, LLC ("C&B") is a privately-owned technical services business and specialty distributor. C&B is the nation's leading distributor of architectural hardware, doors, doorframes, and related building products for non-residential building applications throughout the United States.

Summary

The Human Resources Assistant will assist with the administration of the day-to-day operations of the human resources functions such as; assisting in payroll, benefits admin, new hire onboarding, completing reports and employee events.

Human Resources Responsibilities:  

  • Administer the new hire onboarding process (HRIS onboarding, I-9, E-Verification)
  • Prepare and maintain employment records related to events such as hiring, termination, leaves, transfers, or promotions, using the payroll system and internal document retention system
  • Approve employee changes such as; home address, direct deposit & tax exemption changes in the payroll system
  • Assist the Payroll Manager with company payroll processing, will be designated payroll backup
  • Assist with all items related to benefits admin, including billing processing
  • Respond to unemployment claims  from the ESC, including requesting supporting documentation from branch locations
  • Assist in participating and presenting information at unemployment claim hearings
  • Complete mandatory quarterly tax reports related to unemployment
  • Complete verification of employment requests
  • Process child support and tax garnishment requests by entering and tracking in the payroll system.
  • Manually adjust PTO / Anniversary accruals 
  • Administer 90 Day Review evaluations for new hires in the payroll system
  • Assist with Performance evaluation process annually companywide
  • Execute and maintain calendars and schedules
  • Prepare and handle confidential and personnel information
  • Assist with recruiting and training process when needed
  • Other HR tasks and duties as needed

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities.

  • Excellent computer skills, including Word, PowerPoint and Excel
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • General knowledge of various employment laws and practices
  • Able to exhibit a high level of confidentiality
  • Must be able identify and resolve problems in timely manner 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associates or Bachelor's Degree Required
  • 1-3 Years of Experience in HR/Admin Role Required
  • Experience with Paylocity is a plus
  • Team player with a willingness to learn
