We are currently recruiting for a Grinder/ Field Repair who will work in the Martin Architectural Products  division in Cary, North Carolina.

Summary

Grind, sand, bondo or polish, using hand tools or hand-held power tools, a variety of metals.

Essential Functions

  • Grind, sand, clean, bondo or polish objects or parts to correct defects or to prepare surfaces for further finishing, using hand tools and power tools.
  • Select files or other abrasives, according to materials, sizes and shapes of work pieces, amount of stock to be removed, finishes specified, and steps in finishing process.
  • Measure and mark equipment, objects, or parts to ensure grinding and polishing standards are met.
  • Verify quality of finished work pieces by inspection, comparison to templates, measuring their dimensions, or testing work pieces in working machinery.
  • Record product and processing data on specified forms.
  • Transfer equipment, objects, or parts to specified work areas, using moving devices.
  • Apply solutions and chemicals to equipment, objects, or parts using hand tools.
  • Repair and maintain equipment, objects, or parts using hand tools.
  • Sharpen abrasive grinding tools, using machines and hand tools.
  • File grooved, contoured, and irregular surfaces of metal objects, such as metal working dies and machine parts, to conform to templates, other parts, layouts, or blueprint specifications.
  • Repair products by dismantling, straightening, reshaping, and reassembling parts, using cutting torches, straightening presses, and hand tools.
  • Hammer out bulges or bends in metal work pieces.
  • Bond, sand and primer surfaces to make repair seamless.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED)
  • 1-2 years of related experience
  • Ability to communicate effectively within the shop and with customers
  • Requires a valid driver's license
  • Forklift certification or ability to attain certification required

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of and ability to operate grinders, welders, jigsaws and electric drills
  • Accuracy - Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly
  • Detail Oriented - Ability to pay attention to the smallest details of a project or task.
  • Safety Awareness -  Ability to identify and correct conditions that affect employee safety.
  • Working under pressure -  Ability to complete assigned tasks under stressful situations.
  • Motivation -  Ability to inspire oneself and others to reach a goal and/or perform to the best of their ability.
  • Accountability - Ability to accept responsibility and account for his/her actions.
  • Capability to attain OSHA Certification

Physical Demands

Must be able to stand and walk for much of the day. Ability to lift 25-50 pounds frequently, and ability to lift up to 75 pounds occasionally.

Work Environment

Other conditions may include proximity to forklifts or other heavy machinery and using various tools and hardware. Worker is subject to frequent heavy lifting.
