We are currently recruiting for an Accounts Payable Specialist who will work in the corporate office of Cook & Boardman in Winston Salem, North Carolina.

C&B is the nation's leading distributor of architectural hardware, doors, doorframes, and related building products for non-residential building applications throughout the United States.  C&B's operating units include Cook & Boardman, LLC; Precision Doors & Hardware, LLC; Architectural Building Supply, LLC; Martin Architectural Products; Hollow Metal Specialists; Hardware Consultants; Precision Millwork; Delta Door and Harware; Pinnacle Door & Hardware; Specialized AP and RDL Supply. Today, C&B operates from 31 locations and serves customers throughout the United States.


The Account Payable Specialist is responsible for reviewing, monitoring and maintaining invoices, expense reports, and other accounts payable transactions and reports. This person will work in direct support of the Accounts Payable Manager and serve as an AP Liaison to various remote locations in the Cook & Boardman Group Company. A qualified applicant should have accounts payable knowledge and experience.

Essential Functions

  • Reviews and verifies invoices, check requisitions, expense reports, and enters them into ERP system
  • Reconciles other accounts payable transactions
  • Prepares and performs daily check runs (back up function)
  • Prepares analysis of vendor accounts upon request
  • Monitors accounts to ensure payments are up to date
  • Researches and resolves invoice discrepancies and issues
  • Maintains vendor/supplier file, along with W-9 files and other qualifying information
  • Corresponds with vendors and other associates and responds to inquires
  • Responsible for 1099 reporting and ensuring the accuracy of the information maintained in the accounting system
  • Any additional duties as required

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting required
  • 1-3 years of experience in similar accounting position
  • Excellent Excel experience and skills required
  • High attention to detail, self-motivated, and the ability to work independently
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Strong PC and systems skills required, proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Thorough knowledge of general accounting including thorough skills knowledge plus the application of general accounting theory.
  • Must be proficient in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint software programs.  
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.

Physical Demands

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
