We are currently recruiting for a Door Machining Shop Technician who will work in the Hardware Consultants division of our Exactitude branch office in Cumberland Foreside, Maine.  

 

Summary

Exactitude and its door and hardware division, Hardware Consultants, has an opening for a Shop Technician to work in its Wood and Hollow Metal Door shops at its Cumberland, Maine facility.  Exactitude is a major supplier and installer of commercial grade doors and hardware, access control and video systems and custom wood doors and architectural woodwork in the Northeast. This is a full time position.

The successful candidate for this position must have the ability to work both with wood and metal, including welding with a mig welder on metal doors and frames. Accuracy is very important as most of the work involves modifications to doors and frames including such items as preparing them for locksets, hinges, glass kits, access control devices and other such products.  3 to 4 days a week of this individual's time will be working in the metal door and frame shop and the remaining time will be handling overflow work from the wood door and frame machining shop.

Demonstrated and pertinent experience with fabrication or installation and welding required.  However, training will be provided for the specialized duties performed in these shops.  The company has both a welding shop and a wood door machining shop and associated equipment.   We are looking for someone with a positive attitude who is a team player and able to work independently.  

Essential Functions

  • Assemble and weld hollow metal door frames for installation by our field technicians.  Reinforce and prep hollow metal frames and doors for door hardware.  Install vision kits into doors.  Modify and repair hollow metal doors and frames as needed for project specifications.  Some surface repair similar to auto body work required.  
  • Machine wood doors and frames using routers and other woodworking equipment to prepare them for hinges, locksets, closures, access control and other hardware.  Work includes rerailing and modifying doors    for custom sizes and configurations.
  • Read and interpret machining sheets prepared by our detailing department and resolve issues with detailers as needed.  Coordinate pulling doors, accessories and frame components from stock with the warehouse.
  • Most all work is performed in shops in Cumberland.  Occasional field work required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Welding experience required, preferably with MIG or TIG.  Woodworking experience a plus.
  • Heaving lifting and positioning of doors and frames required.
  • Proven fabrication skills necessary.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screen and background check

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • This work ranges from straightforward welding of three sides metal door frames to complex repairs and modifications to wood and metal doors. Precision, accuracy and attention to detail are important so that doors, frames and hardware can be installed properly and necessary mechanical components align.  
  • Quality of work must be high as doors will be finish painted or stained and in the case of wood doors, will be at times installed with natural finish.
  • Ability to coordinate with warehouse, detailing and installation staffs important.

Physical Demands

Spends more than 2/3 of time standing, kneeling/crouching/stooping, using hands and reaching. Spends more than 1/3 of time walking and talking/hearing. Frequent lifting required of items 25-50 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

Work Environment

May be exposed to variable weather conditions. Other conditions may include proximity to forklifts or other heavy machinery and using various tools and hardware. Worker is subject to frequent heavy lifting.
