We are currently recruiting for a Credit Manager to work at our Cook & Boardman Corporate Office in Winston-Salem, North Carolina

C&B is the premier provider of architectural hardware, doors, doorframes, and related building specialties for non-residential building applications throughout the US.  C&B's operating units include Cook & Boardman, LLC; Precision Doors & Hardware, LLC; Architectural Building Supply, LLC; Martin Architectural Products; Hollow Metal Specialists; Hardware Consultants; Precision Millwork; Exactitude; Delta Door and Hardware: Pinnacle Door & Hardware; Specialized AP and RDL Supply. Today, we operate from 31 locations and serve customers across the United States.


The Credit Manager has overall responsibility for the prompt and efficient collection of all credit sales for each of the branch offices. Emphasis is placed on increasing timeliness of payments and reducing DSO for the company. The position is responsible for minimizing bad debts and collection costs while allowing for maximum collectible sales potential. Customer concerns and service issues are monitored and resolved through close communication with sales staff.

Essential Functions

  • Supervises all credit staff
  • Establishes and monitors company credit policy and procedures. Institutes changes as necessary
  • Maintains library of credit documents to include credit applications, personal guaranty, and joint check agreements
  • Assures timely and accurate processing of credit applications to minimize risk associated with bad debt while achieving maximum amount of collectible sales
  • Establishes credit limits on customer accounts and conducts regular reviews for continued credit worthiness. Adjust limits as needed to account for payment trend changes or committed contracts
  • Assigns account numbers and enters new customer information into database. Assures correct tax rates are assigned and proper documentation received for customers claiming tax exempt status
  • Primary signature authority for company regarding lien releases. Secondary signature authority for other items such as contracts, change orders, guaranties, etc.
  • Reviews AR aging and collection reports to ascertain status of collections and balances outstanding. Evaluates actions of Credit Analysts and directs activities where needed
  • Monitors the cash application process, assuring payments are posted accurately and retainage is properly identified
  • Intervenes in collection of difficult accounts to resolve issues. Makes collection calls to customers where appropriate. Initiates action to clear up accounts
  • Performs account reconciliations and researches problem issues to clear up delinquent balances
  • Approves all account placed on hold and sends demand letters
  • Ensures proper tracking of customer service issues and coordinates monthly meetings with sales and branch personnel to branch responsibilities regarding collection are being fulfilled and communication with all units is maintained.
  • Handles customer complaints by resolving issues where possible. Follows up to ensure that credits are written promptly where appropriate
  • Supervises AIA billing process in South Carolina locations. Approves all monthly progress billings before they are sent to the customer
  • Minimizes bad debt loss by monitoring past due situations and filing timely liens, bond claims or other method of collection. Coordinates efforts of collection attorneys where needed
  • Summarizes both bad debt charge-offs and credits issued against customer accounts annually or more frequently if needed
  • Responds to audit requests as needed
  • Produces the monthly AR Management report, and assures collateral reporting needs are met on a timely basis.
  • Produces and mails customer accounts receivables statements on a monthly basis and in a timely fashion to encourage prompt payment 
  • Works closely and cordially with other associates in the accounting/finance section, sales, project management, or other functions to assure high levels of customer service and internal efficiency performs other duties as assigned by management

Minimum Qualifications

  • 4 year degree required
  • Minimum 5 years of experience with credit extension and collection issues, preferably in a construction environment
  • Strong mathematical, analytical and accounting skills
  • Prior supervisory experience required
  • Ability to travel to other Cook and Boardman locations

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong leadership and positive interpersonal skills
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to interpret complex legal documents
  • Requires strong knowledge of lien laws and bonding requirements
  • Experience automating processes within a credit department desired
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Office products and other software for a transaction-based system (Comsense or similar)
