We are currently recruiting for an Estimating and Detailing Assistant who will work in our Winston Salem branch of Cook & Boardman.

C&B is the nation's leading distributor of architectural hardware, doors, doorframes, and related building products for non-residential building applications throughout the United States.  C&B's operating units include Cook & Boardman, LLC; Precision Doors & Hardware, LLC; Architectural Building Supplies, LLC; Martin Architectural Products; Hollow Metal Specialists; Hardware Consultants; Precision Millwork; Delta Door and Hardware; Pinnacle Door & Hardware and RDL Supply. Today, C&B operates from 23 locations across ten states and serves customers throughout the United States.


Will become familiar with interpreting total opening requirements set forth in contract documents i.e. plans, specifications, addenda, and other related information concerning an individual construction project. Will assist detailing and estimating with data entry into the system.

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Some related experience in similar construction or building material industry helpful
  • Detail oriented; deadline conscience; goal driven
  • Accurate mathematical skills required
  • Must pass pre-employment background check and drug screen

 Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 

  • Special skills of blue print/plan reading helpful
  • Microsoft office proficiency
  • Will gain knowledge of door, frame and hardware applications as they relate to UL, fire code, building code, ADA, life safety and other restrictions that relate to the general commercial construction industry
  • Must have excellent oral communication skills and positive interpersonal skills.

Essential Functions 

  • Receives all bid requests and creates folders and subfolders in the system
  • Downloads all plans, specs and addendums
  • Contacts architects for complete plan holders list of GC's only
  • Enters all projects into bid leads in Comsense and updates them as needed
  • Will learn to import door schedules and hardware specs
  • Will learn data entry of locations and handings to assist detailing
  • Will review and compare plans and specifications for accuracy of data entry
  • Contacts vendors for technical assistance and quotations
  • Assists in preparing and printing submittal documents for Architect and Contractor review
  • Creates and costs change orders for project management review
  • Other duties as required by location manager

This job operates primarily in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
